Brasher’s Auto Auctions Select InterSystems CACHÉ Database For Real-time Auction System Processing Sales in Excess of $1.5 Billion

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--InterSystems Corporation today announced that Brasher’s Auto Auctions has gone live in six locations across the Western U.S. with enterprise applications running on the InterSystems CACHÉ® high-performance database with MultiValue (MV) technology. The migration, which involved more than 8,000 programs and cataloged procedures ranging from accounting applications through real-time bid processing systems in auction venues, is characterized by CIO Ty Brewer as “a major success story.”

InterSystems develops and markets innovative database, integration, and business intelligence products. Known worldwide as a leading database in enabling transactional systems, CACHÉ delivers rapid Web application development, extraordinary transaction processing speed, massive scalability, and real-time queries against transactional data. Brasher’s is the third largest player in the auto auction industry, generating in excess of $1.5 billion in vehicle sales annually.

Object Features, Resiliency, Web Services Support Database Choice

Multiple technical problems and some concern about the future viability of their existing vendor fueled Brasher’s decision to move to a new database platform, according to Brewer. “We knew that we had to move away from our legacy system…but we weren’t certain which database was right for our environment.” As a result, Brasher’s conducted in-depth evaluations of multiple products offering MV capabilities.

Using charts that specified Brasher’s database requirements that were weighted based on their relative importance, the IT team reviewed and compared the major products in the MV space. “CACHÉ provides a true bridge from legacy MV applications to a modern, object-oriented database without any compromise,” Brewer said. Database resiliency, a rich development environment, high performance, and an “awesome debugger that saved an enormous amount of time in testing and development” also played into the decision to go with CACHÉ. “These capabilities were complemented by e-learning services, online Google groups including one focused on the MV community and the 24/7 support that InterSystems provides. Many companies talk the talk about superior support,” Brewer continued. “InterSystems does more than talk—they’ve proven that they deliver world-class technical support on an ongoing basis.”

With the completion of the rollout to the CACHÉ platform, Brasher’s is well positioned for continued growth. “We now have a modern architecture that we can rely on as we continue to add new capabilities designed to enhance our competitive position in the automotive auction market,” Brewer said.

“I’m glad we were able to partner with Brasher’s to help them to maintain their position as a market leader and as the largest privately held company in its industry sector,” said Paul Grabscheid, InterSystems Vice President of Strategic Planning. “Equally critical, they have the database architecture needed to enable them to transform future IT strategies into successful implementations.”
