FLEET, UNITED KINGDOM – September 11, 2009: For the fifth month in succession, SsangYong has outperformed the UK car market in August with a sales increase over the same month last year of 160 per cent.

According to figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), 52 SsangYong passenger cars were registered in August, against 20 in the same month last year. The UK car market showed an overall increase of 5.98 per cent last month.

None of SsangYong’s registrations in August were attributable to the scrappage incentive scheme.

Paul Williams, managing director of SsangYong distributor Koelliker UK, said: “We continue to make steady progress and our dealers are following up strong sales leads. Our volumes are still low of course, but five months of better figures than last year is very encouraging – especially as we have seen little benefit from the scrappage scheme.”

Over the first eight months of the year, SsangYong registrations are now 7.31 per cent up on the same period last year – one of only eight makes showing an increase in a market still in overall decline by over 21 per cent.

SsangYong buyers have been attracted to the South Korean company’s five year/250,000 mile warranty and current five years’ free servicing offer. SsangYong is also offering five year’s 0% finance on selected Kyron 2.7 SPR, Rexton 2.7 SPR and Rodius 270 S models, meaning a monthly payment as low as £125. And dealers have special Rodius accessory offers right now including alloy wheels, roof-mounted, drop down DVD players, roof bars, luggage boxes and ski carriers.
