MILPERRA, AUSTRALIA – September 9, 2009: Proton has announced the name and the on sale date for its new entry level sedan which promises to be the lowest cost four door sedan on the Australian market.

The new Proton, to be known as the S16 in Australia, will officially go on sale on November 1 and will sell for a drive away price under $13,000.

The company has launched a special new website as part of the introduction of the new S16 at www.newsedan.com.au with links to it from www.proton.com.au.

Proton will be directing customers to the S16 website via advertising on the internet using sites such as Carsales, Facebook and Google.

The site will allow customers to register their details to ensure they are amongst the first to find out details of exact price and specifications when they are revealed closer to the official on sale date.

According to Proton Cars Australia's general manager of sales and operations, Billy Falconer the new S16 will deliver the best value and economy equation on the Australian car market.

"We believe the S16 will lead the market on price and economy with performance that will be head and shoulders above other cars in the sector," said Billy Falconer.

"We have already had a strong response to the announcement that Proton would be launching Australia's lowest priced four door sedan and between now and the launch date more details including exact pricing will be revealed," he said.

"All Proton Australia dealers will be taking delivery of a demonstrator S16 during October for test drives and will take orders for the new car ahead of the launch," he added.

The dedicated website reveals the S16 with a spotlight, highlighting the vehicle while allowing customers to hover over the pictures to reveal some of the features as well as a section for customers to register their details.

Unlike some other economy cars the new Proton S16 will feature a 1.6 litre four-cylinder engine, a four door sedan body with a large 413 litre boot and a full size spare wheel as well as an impressive array of standard equipment.

The new Proton S16 will be powered by Proton's twin cam 16-valve 1.6 litre Campro engine with IAFM (Intake Air Fuel Module) intake manifold which produces 82 kW of power and will deliver an average fuel consumption of 6.3 litres/100km.

S16 will come equipped with air conditioning, power front windows, power steering, remote keyless entry with central locking and immobiliser, AM/FM/CD audio system, height adjustable drivers seat and tilt adjustable steering as well as multiple cup holders and door pockets.

Like all Proton passenger vehicles the S16 comes with the safety and assurance of Lotus ride and handling, as well as Proton's three year unlimited kilometre factory backed warranty and free 24 hour a day roadside assistance.
