RACE OF CHAMPIONS WINNERS CROWNED AT NORTHWEST DIVISION’S SUMMIT SERIES
FINALS

WOODBURN, Ore. (Sept. 5, 2009) – Racing continued today at
Woodburn Dragstrip where the best bracket racers in NHRA’s Northwest
division have converged to compete for individual and team honors at the
NHRA Northwest Division Summit Racing Series Finals. Teams representing
tracks from across the region are racing in eight categories: Super Pro,
Pro, Sportsman, Motorcycle/Snowmobile, High School, Sport Compact and two
categories of Jr. Dragster.

Today’s action was highlighted by the Race of Champions (ROC), a
race within the race, where the top points earning drivers from each track
square off in head-to-head competition. The ROC winners in Super Pro, Pro,
Sportsman and Motorcycle/Snowmobile earn the right to compete for a national
championship and a winner-take-all $5,000 purse against the winners from
NHRA’s other six divisions during the NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif., in
November.

David Regnier of Bend, Ore., (Madras Dragstrip) wheeled his ’66
Nova to the ROC win over Lloyd York, Kent, Wash., (Pacific Raceways) who was
behind the wheel of his ’68 Nova. Spokane, Wash., racer Dave Oien (Spokane
County Raceway) won the ROC in Pro in his ’66 Cornet. He ousted fellow
Spokane resident Eric Wolfe (Spokane County Raceway) ,in a ’67 Fairlane, in
the final. The win in the Sportsman ROC went to Martin Jackman, Mission,
B.C. (Eagle Motorplex) in his ’66 Chevy II. Jackman scored the win when Ted
Buzynis, Ft. MacLeod, Alb., (MHDRA Dragstrip) was unable to make the call in
the final round. Ken Bromley, Yacolt, Wash., (Portland Int’l Raceway) rode
his ’06 Honda to the ROC win in Motorcycle/Snowmobile. He beat out Roger
Wolff, Dundee, Ore., (Woodburn Dragstrip) aboard his ’06 Kawasaki. High
School category racer Josh Wilson, Vancouver, Wash., (Woodburn Dragstrip),
grabbed the ROC win over Jesse Neveu, Yakima, Wash., (Renegade Raceways).

Eliminations for the Northwest Division Summit Racing Series
Finals start Sunday morning at 8 a.m. More than 600 racers started the
event and in the end there will only be eight left standing.

Woodburn Dragstrip is located at 7730 Highway 219,
1½ miles off I-5 at Woodburn exit 271. For more information call the track,
