LONDON, July 23, 2009: Nigel Base has joined Volvo Truck and Bus Centre London as their new Aftermarket Director. Nigel has worked in the commercial vehicle field for his entire career. He replaces Jim Murray who acted as interim Director for a short period.

Nigel began his career on the workshop floor as a technician and worked his way up. He spent 14 years at Scania before becoming Managing Director (UK and Europe) of Detroit-based electric and hybrid drive manufacturer Azure Dynamics.

His first impressions of Volvo and his immediate team are very promising. “Volvo is friendly and professional; it has a reputation as a premier division product,” says Nigel. “I had two job offers and I took the one from Volvo – it’s a solid, stable, blue-chip company. The team here in London are very enthusiastic, they’re capable and efficient. Give them the right leadership and mentoring and we’ll be going places! I’d like to say, too, that Jim Murray has done an outstanding job in a very challenging role as interim.”

Asked about his own challenges, Nigel points to the economic climate. “There will be a delay between the recovery of new truck sales and that of the aftermarket,” is his opinion, “and we’ll need to be strong to get through it.”

He says he has spent his first month in post assessing and analysing – “lifting carpets and opening cupboards” as he puts it.

He is, however, bullish about the prospects for success. “My goal is simple,” he says, “I want to make Volvo Truck and Bus Centre London the number one region in the entire Dealer network for Aftermarket!”
