LISLE, Ill.--Molex Incorporated announced today that 200 of its US-based fleet drivers have completed GreenDriver’s online training and certification program. Molex is the first corporation to complete the GreenDriver program, which provides a viable solution for commercial and government fleets to reduce their CO2 and fuel spend. According to the EPA, driver behavior is responsible for as much as 33% of each driver’s individual fuel economy. GreenDriver teaches drivers how vehicle maintenance, trip preplanning and small behavioral changes can directly impact their carbon emissions and fuel consumption.

“GreenDriver directly supports Molex’s ECOCARE initiative, which is a company-wide commitment to minimize the environmental, occupational health and safety impacts of our business activities, products and services,” says Joel Eurich, manager, Global EH&S, Molex Incorporated. “Not only is the GreenDriver program a smart environmental decision, but it also will result in cost savings for the company as we reduce our fuel usage.”

GreenDriver, which is based on industry best practices and fact-based studies, provides practical, simple ways for drivers to operate their vehicles more efficiently. The online course takes approximately 90 minutes to complete and includes information on the impact of excess weight, proper ways to accelerate/decelerate, how and when to use cruise control, the importance of proper vehicle spacing, and other important measures.

“We applaud Molex’s focus on the environment and their commitment to making a positive impact,” says Dave Dufresne, VP of Product Management, GreenDriver. “Molex’s new GreenDriver Certified drivers will begin to positively contribute to the environment through reduced CO2 emissions and to the company’s bottom line through reduced fuel costs.”

Based on data from Donlen Corporation, Molex’s fleet management provider, Molex’s sales and marketing teams drive approximately 3,700,000 miles, consuming approximately 260,000 gallons of fuel a year. By completing the GreenDriver program, Molex expects to reduce the fuel use by at least 10%, which equates to approximately 26,000 gallons of fuel and 230 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually.
