FLEET, UNITED KINGDOM – July 6, 2009: For the third month in succession, SsangYong bucked the downturn in the UK car market in June with a sales increase over the same month last year of 136.17 per cent.

According to figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), 111 SsangYong passenger cars were registered in June, against 47 in the same month last year. The UK car market showed a drop of 15.74 per cent last month.

In April and May, SsangYong was one of just a handful of makes to show any sales growth. With the £2,000 scrappage incentive scheme in place and beginning to impact on the market, 15 manufacturers increased year-on-year sales in June, with SsangYong second only to Cadillac which registered 22 cars against only three last June.

Over the first six months of the year, SsangYong registrations are just 13.98 per cent down – one of the best performances in a market showing an overall decline of nearly 26 per cent.

Although SsangYong has seen some benefit from the scrappage scheme, the South Korean company’s new, permanent five year/250,000 mile warranty and five years’ free servicing offer has been a much bigger hit with customers. And now SsangYong is offering five year’s 0% finance on selected Kyron 2.7 SPR, Rexton 2.7 SPR and Rodius 270 S models, meaning a monthly payment as low as £125.
