MULGRAVE, AUSTRALIA – June 26, 2009: BMW’s decision earlier this decade to begin offering diesel engines in Australia has been well received by luxury buyers.

Over a third of all new BMW buyers this year chose diesel power and the Bavarian brand is now the leading purveyor of luxury diesels in Australia.

BMW delivered 2,043 diesel vehicles to Australian customers this year, substantially more than its nearest competitors who delivered 1,611 and 1,522 vehicles respectively.

The proportion of BMW customers opting for high output, low emission diesel engines has climbed from 30 per cent, last year, to 33.6 per cent in 2009.

Customers are finding that the driving excitement of these clean frugal yet potent machines is 100 per cent pure BMW across all driving environments, whether around town, through the twisting countryside or cruising the highway.

“BMW diesels embody the spirit and reality of Efficient Dynamics. They are powerful, frugal and emit less greenhouse gases,” said BMW’s general manager of marketing, Tom Noble.

“BMW diesels deliver responsive performance, with plenty of the low-down torque Australian drivers relish.

“Coupled with our legendary balanced handling, precise steering and powerful brakes we have a range of vehicles that are perfect for the most enthusiastic driver,” he said.

This month BMW will introduce the new 730d, giving top-end luxury buyers the satisfaction of driving the only upper large luxury sedan in Australia to emit less than 200 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometre.
