Citroën's C3 Picasso and C5 Tourer Crowned Top Diesels at What Diesel Awards

SLOUGH, UNITED KINGDOM – April 8, 2009: Citroën’s brand new C3 Picasso and stylish C5 Tourer have been named ‘Best MPV’ and ‘Best Estate Car’ at the 2009 What Diesel Car of the Year awards.

This is already the second award for Citroën’s ‘Spacebox’ C3 Picasso before it has even gone on sale in the UK - it triumphed over 46 competitors, including its ‘big brother’ stable mate, the Grand C4 Picasso, which was runner-up. The mini-MPV bowled over the judging panel, as What Diesel’s Editor Ian Robertson remarked, ‘It’s a really likeable drive, pert and perky with a choice of 1.6-litre HDi engines and sensibly priced.’ The C3 Picasso’s 1.6HDi unit which is offered in 90hp or 110hp versions, delivers up to 60.1mpg combined cycle fuel economy and CO2 emissions of as little as 125g/km.

The dynamic C5 Tourer saw off 30 contenders to take top spot in the ‘Best Estate Car’ category, particularly impressing the award judges with its good economy, excellent refinement and great ride quality. What Diesel commented; ‘The C5 Tourer is a quantum leap forward from its predecessor, and recalibrates what to expect from an elongated hatchback load-carrier.’

With a choice of four efficient HDi diesel engines, the C5 Tourer lets drivers choose their ideal mix of performance and long-distance fuel economy - the 1.6HDi unit offers 53.3mpg on the combined cycle whilst the 2.7HDi V6 model boasts a 0-62mph time of just 8.9seconds. Every HDi unit is also fitted with Citroën’s Diesel Particulate Filter System (DPFS), which virtually eliminates particle emissions.
