Washington DC March 16, 2009; The AIADA newsletter reported that perhaps it's time to rethink the concept of the luxury car. It would probably do us all some good to learn to appreciate style, comfort, and quality engineering separate from prestige.

Unfortunately, many of us don't have the money to spend on them. Or so it seems. According to MSN, carmakers in the past few years have demonstrated a remarkable ability to produce high-quality luxury vehicles at less than half the $100K price tag.

To help buyers craving luxury in tough times, MSN tracked down 10 vehicles that offer plenty of luxury bang for the buck.

One of the top picks: the Volkswagen CC. The CC, short for "comfort coupe," is purportedly based on the Passat but looks nothing like it. If it resembles anything, it is Mercedes' elegant $70,700 CLS except that Volkswagen's $27,100 CC is the better-looking car.

And don't forget the 2009 North American Car of the Year, the Hyundai Genesis. Starting at only $32,250 for a 290-horsepower 3.8-liter V6 engine, it's an awful lot of car for the money.
