DETROIT, March 10, 2009; Arnold Schwarzenegger, California's 38th Governor, will take on a featured role when he addresses attendees during the Special Opening Ceremonies of SAE 2009 World Congress at 8 a.m. April 20.

The announcement of Gov. Schwarzenegger's appearance was made today by SAE International's Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer David L. Schutt, Ph.D., during a press preview in Detroit for SAE 2009 World Congress. The Special Opening Ceremonies, which kick off the four-day SAE 2009 World Congress hosted by Honda with Bosch as the Tier One Strategic Partner, are co-sponsored by AVL North America and Dassault Systemes.

One of Gov. Schwarzenegger's most notable accomplishments in his first five years in office includes the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 - a bipartisan agreement to combat global warming by reducing California's greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, Gov. Schwarzenegger has invested in improving California's infrastructure through his Strategic Growth Plan, helping to reduce congestion and clean the air. He established the Hydrogen Highway and Million Solar Roofs Plan, continuing his efforts to create a greener environment.

The SAE 2009 World Congress, with its theme "Racing to Green Mobility," is set for April 20-23 at Cobo Center in Detroit. Masaaki Kato, President, Honda R&D Co., Ltd., is the General Chairman of the event. Commenting on this year's theme, Kato said, "As a global community of automotive engineers, we are facing monumental challenges that are complex and far-reaching. These challenges will impact our energy resources, our environment, our economy - and our future."

The SAE 2009 World Congress is the world's largest powertrain and safety engineering conference, offering the global automotive industry's most comprehensive technical program, featuring technical papers, SAE seminars, exhibits, the AVL Technology Leadership Theater, the FEV Powertrain Innovation Forum and the SAE Executive Business Theater.
