GYOR, HUNGARY / INGOLSTADT, GERMANY – March 10, 2009: In 2008, Audi Hungaria had yet another successful fiscal year. The company once again manufactured a remarkable number of engines: 1,900,333 units in 2008 (2007: 1,913,053). Furthermore, the number of vehicles produced rose by around 6 percent. In 2008, 41,789 units (2007: 56,766) of the Audi TT Coupé and TT Roadster as well as 18,570 units (2007: 216) of the Audi A3 Cabriolet rolled out of the assembly shop. All in all, 60,359 vehicles (2007: 56,982) were manufactured here last year – a new record in the company’s history. Audi invested €309 million (2007: €214 million) in Győr for a year-on-year increase of 44.4 percent.

“Audi Hungaria impressively proved once again in 2008 that it is a pivotal supplier of engines to the Audi Group and Volkswagen Group. The company has demonstrated its prowess as a manufacturing hub for premium automobiles by adding a third Audi model to its production repertoire: the Audi A3 Cabriolet. Our company owes its success to flexibility and the continuous optimization of our core processes,” said Thomas Faustmann, Managing Director, today upon release of the figures for the 2008 fiscal year.

1,900,333 engines were produced in 2008 (2007: 1,913,053). The key high-volume model lines – which account for around three quarters of overall output – were four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines. The powerful twelve-cylinder TDI engine and the new supercharged six-cylinder gasoline engine have been added to the product portfolio.

The range of tasks has expanded for staff in toolmaking, production planning, and engine development.

The volume of vehicles produced rose by 5.93 percent in 2008. All told, 60,359 units (56,982) of the Audi TT and Audi A3 Cabriolet were produced. The Audi A3 Cabriolet is now the third model commissioned by AUDI AG to roll off the assembly line in Győr. The start-up of the Audi TTS and the Audi TT with a 2.0 TDI engine comprised additional product highlights in 2008. The total number of vehicles assembled in Győr has now exceeded the 400,000 mark.

Revenue at Audi Hungaria amounted to €5.617 billion (2007: €5.872 billion, a decrease of 4.3 percent), which came very close to the prior year’s high figure.

Capital investment, including capitalized development costs, totaled €309 million in 2008 (2007: €214 million). Since the founding of AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft., its total capital investment as per IFRS (including capitalized development costs) had reached €3.611 billion (2007: €3.302 billion) by the end of 2008. That is an increase of more than 9 percent. Capital investment was primarily allocated to widening the product range and once again expanding plant infrastructure.

At the end of the year under review, 5,879 (2007: 5,845) people were working at AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft.

“Given the global recession, our excellent flexibility and our staff’s commitment provide a solid foundation for mastering this year’s challenges. It’s now more important than ever that we bolster our competitive edge,” said Dr. Johannes Roscheck, Director of Finance at AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft.
