WCEE NAMES AWEA CEO DENISE BODE WOMAN OF THE YEAR
Clean Energy Advocate Receives Women's Council on Energy
and the Environment's Highest Honor
WASHINGTON, D.C., March 5, 2009 - The Women's Council on Energy and the
Environment today named Chief Executive Officer of the American Wind
Energy Association Denise Bode as its Woman of the Year. Bode is
recognized for her leadership and accomplishments in advocating for
clean and affordable energy.
"I am honored to join the company of accomplished women who have
received this award," said Bode. "And at this time in our nation's
energy history, I am grateful to have the opportunity to lead the wind
energy industry - a sector that the President has identified as a key
driver for the new U.S. economy. The wind industry is ready now to lead
the economic recovery and to power growth well into the future as we
progress toward providing 20% of the nation's electricity by 2030. It's
great to be part of this energy revolution."
WCEE cited Ms. Bode's efforts to leverage her expertise to engage in the
national energy debate, her accomplishments advocating for diverse
energy resources and her outstanding career as a public servant in
awarding the honor.
"Ms. Bode's contributions in the energy field are highly regarded and
her success in using technology to focus the energy debate is
admirable," said Sharla Artz, WCEE President. "Ms. Bode is a perfect
role model for women hoping to advance in the energy field."
Ms. Bode's experience includes service on the Oklahoma Corporation
Commission, as the CEO of the American Clean Skies Foundation, President
of the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA) and on the
staff of then-U.S. Senator David Boren (D-OK) as his legal counsel. Ms.
Bode broadcasts a daily radio program and an online television program
through CleanSkies TV.
Each year WCEE honors a distinguished woman from the fields of energy
and the environment who has herself made a particular contribution to
the advancement of women. Past honorees include: Linda Fisher, DuPont
Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer, Eileen Claussen,
President of the Pew Center on Global Climate Change, Senator Mary
Landrieu (D-LA), Kathleen McGinty, DEP Secretary for the State of
Pennsylvania, Shelia Slocum Hollis, Managing Partner, Duane Morris LLP;
The Honorable Nora Mead Brownell, FERC Commissioner; Kathryn S. Fuller,
World Wildlife Fund President and Chief Executive Officer.
