TOPEKA, Kan. January 9, 2009: Programming from the 2008 SCCA National Championship Runoffs® continues on Monday, Jan. 12, with the GT-Lite and Sports 2000 races.

A bizarre GT-Lite race gets things started at noon (EST). As the field circulates Heartland Park Topeka on its pace lap, polesitter Chris Bovis pulls off course on the back stretch, his engine silent. Shortly thereafter, second-place starter Brian Linn hits pit lane with mechanical woes as well. When the green flag drops, third-place qualifier Peter Zekert finds himself at the front of the pack. Zekert’s No. 45 Booble/Goodyear/Red Line Nissan 200 SX SE-R is followed into Turn One by the No. 72 Goodyear/RedLine/Road-n-Race Honda CRX of Peter Shadowen and the No. 6 FMR/Goodyear/Rebello Racing Nissan Sentra SE-R of Lans Stout. Can either Shadowen or Stout catch Zekert who appears to have lady luck on his side? Tune into SPEED and watch.

Next at 1 p.m. (EST), it’s Sports 2000, with the venerable John Fergus starting from the pole in his No. 00 Hoosier Tires/Fergus Companies Carbir CS2. The five-time S2000 Champion immediately comes under threat by Bart Wolf and the No. 28 Goodyear/My Visa/Arms Up/TCP Carbir CS2.8. Fergus holds him off, but Wolf isn’t going anywhere. Making things even more interesting, Fergus’ son Corey sits third behind Wolf, driving the No. 07 Fergus Companies Carbir CS2. Will he be able to help his dad claim S2000 Championship number six? Make sure to check it out on SPEED.
