AUTO CENTRAL – January 9, 2009: Just a few months after the launch of the Motor Industry Code of Practice for Service and Repair, Motor Codes director Chris Mason has picked up the top award of Person of the Year at this year’s CAT magazine awards.

Chris was up against five other industry heads and faced stiff competition for the much-coveted accolade. Although he has worked tirelessly behind the scenes on developing the new code of practice for over three years now, Chris had only really been introduced to the 17,000 recipients of CAT magazine since the Code was launched to the garage trade in May 2008.

“To have been nominated in the first instance was unexpected but appreciated. However, to go on to pick up the most votes in total has been very encouraging,” said Chris Mason, director of Motor Codes Limited. “I see this as an endorsement of what the industry has managed to achieve collectively. I am proud to accept this award on behalf of everyone who is helping to make the Motor Industry Code of Practice for Service and Repair such a success.”

In less than a year, more than 5,000 garages have already subscribed to the Code and in August 2008 completed stage one of the Office of Fair Trading’s (OFT) Consumer Codes Approval Scheme, the first step to full OFT approval. The scheme sets minimum levels for garage operators and provides customers with an easily accessible dispute resolution process. Full details can be found at www.motorindustrycodes.co.uk

Chris Mason summed up by saying, “The fact that no judging panel is involved in the process of this award adds even greater value to the recognition factor. It also acts as a big thank you to the garages that have joined us in the early days – but more importantly it should send the message to those not yet subscribed, that they have no reason to delay any longer.”
