TOPEKA, Kan. January 7, 2009: SCCA and SCCA Pro Racing have appointed Randy Hembrey as the Muscle Milk® SCCA® Trans-Am® Series Manager.

Hembrey comes to Trans-Am from the SCCA Pro Racing Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup, where he served as the assistant chief steward in 2008. The Chicago native has also held the position of Formula Drift Chief Steward since 2005.

An SCCA member since 1982, Hembrey has held numerous operational and leadership positions for the Chicago Region, and was elected to the region’s board of directors from 1998 – 2001. He was invited to join the SCCA Pro Racing field staff in 2004. Hembrey’s years of F&C experience paved the way for an opportunity to work the FIA Canadian Grand Prix from 1995 – 1999 and the FIA United States Grand Prix from 2000 – 2006, where he served as the Assistant Chief of Communications.

Professionally, Hembrey worked with United Airlines for more than 20 years, most recently as manager of airport operations research and development.

“We are very lucky to have Randy on board,” SCCA Vice President of Marketing and Communications Eric Prill said. “He’s quite active in both SCCA and SCCA Pro Racing, which has given him the perfect skill set to take on the rebirth of Trans-Am. This first transitional year will be crucial to the success of the series and we’re confident that Randy is up to the task of seeing it through.”

As Trans-Am Series Manager, Hembrey will oversee all program operations to ensure continuity for each event and serve as a point of contact for teams, tracks and staff.

“Being an SCCA member and race fan, I’m very familiar with the legacy of Trans-Am and have fond childhood memories of watching the series as a spectator at Road America in the late 60’s,” Hembrey said. “It’s quite an honor to be asked to lead the series into a new chapter. I’m looking forward to a successful season so we can build a strong foundation for the re-birth of Trans-Am.”
