Placerville announces 24 event schedule for 2009

PLACERVILLE, CA January 1, 2009: The office of Handy Racing Promotions Incorporated has released an action-packed schedule for the 2009 racing season at Placerville Speedway. Located on the El Dorado County Fairgrounds in Placerville , California , Placerville Speedway is a quarter-mile banked dirt track that has been home to auto racing since the summer of 1965.

As El Dorado County's sole offering for professional spectator sports waves the green flag for its 44th year of continuous operation, a total of 23 exciting events will form the schedule that will stretch from late March into September. Throughout the season, 12 different racing venues will compete on the always eventful bullring speedway that will pride itself on promoting affordable, quality, family entertainment every Saturday night.

The 2009 racing season will begin on Saturday, March 21 as the California Sprint Car Civil War Series will open its season campaign at Placerville Speedway. This exciting series for winged 360 sprint cars will compete in 14 events at six different California dirt tracks this season. Placerville Speedway will host four of those said events.

Following the opener, the series will return to the foothill speedway on Saturday, May 2 for the annual Family Chevrolet Tribute to Al Hinds event. This event is one of the highest paying Civil War events on the regular schedule as the local auto dealership posts a $1000 bonus to the winner in honor of the legendary late race promoter. The Civil War warriors will return later in the season with events on August 1st and the series finale on September 26th.

The fire-breathing 410 cubic inch powered sprint cars of the Golden State Super Sprint Car Series will compete at Placerville Speedway for three different events in the year to come. California ’s premier winged sprint car series will make its first appearance on Saturday, March 28th and will return on May 30 and August 22nd. During each of their appearances, the “King of California” stars will be accompanied by various open wheel divisions including wingless sprint cars and midgets to produce a full night of top notch excitement.

On Saturday, April 4, the 2009 championship point racing season will begin for Placerville ’s three weekly divisions. Winged 360 cubic inch powered sprint cars will be joined on the weekly campaign by late model style Pro Stocks and Pure Stocks along with a guest division during each event to create a four division program.

The sprint cars will compete in a total of 13 championship events during the year while the Pro Stocks will race a total of 15 events for the championship chase and the Pure Stocks will compete in 16 total races during the year.

Five different guest divisions are slated to appear throughout the season. Topping the list of special guests will be the Nor Cal Dwarf Cars that will make a total of eight appearances during the year. The Bay Cities Racing Association will make multiple appearances this season with the full midgets racing on three different occasions and the midget lites competing six times during the year.

A new player at Placerville Speedway will be the Capital City Midgets. With an expanded schedule in 2009, this group of talented racers will make their Placerville Speedway debut on March 28th with the Golden State Challenge Series and will return for three additional visits throughout the year.

The popular Hunt Magneto Wingless Sprint Cars will return to Placerville Speedway once again in the year to come. This division will compete in a twin track championship between Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico and Placerville Speedway. Cumulative points for each event will be awarded to determine the 2009 Placerville-Silver Dollar Speedway Champion.

The Placerville Police Officers Association will tentatively holds its annual Destruction Derby for charity on Sunday, August 16th. This event will be cross promoted with the annual Kids Night at the speedway which will fall on August 15th. Additional special events will include the U.S. Army Fourth of July Spectacular on Saturday, July 4th with racing and fireworks.
