CONCORD, Mass.December 18, 2008: TomTom, the world’s leading navigation solutions provider today announces the introduction of the TomTom Route Planner, a free Web-based routing application available at http://routes.tomtom.com. TomTom’s online Route Planner, which is currently in a BETA test program, allows users to easily pre-plan a route to obtain precise driving directions and arrival times before leaving for their destination.

The TomTom Route Planner gives users door-to-door route planning options to any address in the U.S. or Canada, and is the first route planner in the world to be supported by TomTom’s exclusive Map Share™ and IQ Routes™ technologies. Map Share™ provides users with continuous map improvements made by millions of TomTom users. These submissions are regularly uploaded to the TomTom Route Planner, so users always have access to up-to-date maps that are in line with real-life driving conditions. IQ Routes™ offers users superior routing capabilities based on measured average speeds instead of rough estimates. Unlike other online route planners that rely on posted speed limits, TomTom offers users the benefit of 500 billion historic speed measurements provided by millions of TomTom users. This technology ensures users receive the fastest possible route with the most accurate time of arrival.

“The introduction of TomTom Route Planner marks an important step in our strategy to make our award-winning navigation available for all consumers, regardless of their chosen platform,” said Jocelyn Vigreux, president of TomTom Inc. “TomTom is proud to be the first to offer an online routing site that takes into account continuous map updates and historical drive-time data for the fastest route and the most accurate arrival time.”

The TomTom Route Planner will be launched in several phases. In the first phase, the TomTom Route Planner will be accessible for a select group of BETA test users starting Thursday, December 18, 2008. In subsequent phases, the TomTom Route Planner will include several more features and be available to general public. Information about these features is forthcoming. Based on the feedback of BETA testers, TomTom plans to roll out Route Planner gradually to users worldwide.
