BMW to Bring Sporting Luxury to the Pinnacle of the Diesel Market

MULGRAVE, Australia – Dece,ner 9, 2008: BMW Group Australia today announces it will add a third model to the new BMW 7 Series line-up mid-way through 2009, in the form of the 730d.

This turbocharged straight six-cylinder engine produces 180 kW of power and 540 Nm of torque.

The new BMW 730d will accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 7.2 seconds and has a top speed of 245 km/h.

Despite this impressive accelerative performance, the BMW 730d returns the lowest fuel consumption yet in a BMW luxury class vehicle of this type, using just 7.2 litres of diesel per 100 km.

This level of consumption would be considered impressive even in a small vehicle, let alone a five-metre long luxury car.

In addition the BMW 730d complies with the most stringent Euro 5 European emissions legislation thus far proposed.

European markets have had access to a BMW 7 Series diesel model for some years, and the previous generation 730d was the biggest selling 7 Series model sold there with 48 percent of all sales.

The new BMW 730d is almost nine percent more fuel efficient (and cleaner in its exhaust emissions) than its predecessor, while being more than six percent more powerful. This underlines BMW’s success in achieving the often divergent requirements of increased power with reduced fuel consumption.

The BMW 730d presents the performance oriented luxury car driver with the perfect combination of comfortable cruising, state-of-the-art technology and convenience features as well as an opportunity to reduce their CO2 emissions to impressively low levels for a vehicle of this size.

“The new BMW 730d will combine luxurious comfort, sporting performance and of course, exemplary consumption and emission figures.

“The new generation 7 Series embodies all our latest innovation, and even with its petrol engines reduces as far as possible fuel use. But the 730d takes fuel economy into a new league, with almost 30 percent less fuel required to cover 100 km compared with the 740i.

“This vehicle truly lives up to the BMW driving dynamics standard while at the same time leaving to lightest possible carbon footprint,” Tom said.

Pricing and specification for the Australian market BMW 730d will be announced closer to launch in mid-2009.
