SACRAMENTO, Calif. November 24, 2008: What is the true scale of the energy security and climate change challenge facing us, and how will it affect transportation? What new technologies, fuels and systems are needed by 2030, and what are the new opportunities? What creative new policies and partnerships are required today to help industry, government and stakeholders work together towards solutions that reduce emissions and grow green jobs?

On January 14th and 15th in Sacramento, California – one week before the change of administration in Washington, DC – “Target 2030” will begin those critical dialogues and launch the actions needed to address transportation energy change in California and the nation. Visit www.calstart.org for agenda and registration details.

Organized by CALSTART, North America’s leading clean transportation consortium, this timely day-and-a-half symposium of policymakers and industry leaders will identify, outline and discuss innovative new solutions to address California’s transportation-related energy, climate and air quality challenges.

January is the ideal time for this conference: the California Air Resources Board (CARB) will be finalizing the AB 32 Scoping Plan; a new two-year legislative session will be beginning in California; and President-elect Barack Obama will be sworn into office. “Target 2030” will present an unparalleled opportunity to meet with state leaders and explore new policies, technologies and partnerships that can address California’s transportation energy and climate needs. Experts from automotive, transit, land-use planning, fuel providers, and environmental leaders will take part in outlining the issues and seeking new collaborative and long-term approaches to change. The conference will focus on integrated strategies to reduce oil dependence and greenhouse gas emissions from transportation including vehicle efficiency, low carbon fuels, as well as new models of mobility and improved transit to reduce vehicle miles traveled (VMT).

To be held at the Hyatt Regency Sacramento, this will be the first major conference to assess California’s AB 32 (Climate Change) Scoping Plan proposals for transportation, as well as to explore the scale of additional solutions needed in the future. “Target 2030” will stimulate thinking and engage participants in a dialogue on solutions that go beyond 2020, and will lead to meeting the 2050 climate change reduction goals committed to by Governor Schwarzenegger.

To help shape and illustrate the future possibilities, the conference will also feature clean technology exhibits and a clean vehicles ride and drive.
