SAE International Announces New Award for Diesel Research

WARRENDALE, Pa., November 6, 2008: A new award from SAE International aims to recognize research advancements in diesel engines.

Named the SAE John Johnson Award for Outstanding Research in Diesel Engines, the award will honor the author of a technical paper presented at an SAE meeting or an individual who has demonstrated leadership in the research and development of diesel engines.

The award was established to focus attention on diesel engine research, particularly regarding improvements in efficiency and emissions. Special consideration will be given to papers that present material based on the lead author's thesis research.

The award is funded through a contribution from John H. Johnson. An expert in the field of diesel engines, Johnson is a presidential professor in the mechanical engineering department at Michigan Technological University. He is a Fellow of SAE International and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
