PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 18, 2008 - Zipcar, the world's largest car-sharing company, today announced plans to grow its presence in the Philadelphia market. Following a strong first six months of operation, Zipcar looks to expand its fleet and service locations.

  Beginning immediately, Zipcar will:
Increase its fleet by 20 percent
Introduce new makes and models, including the BMW 328, Volvo S-40,
  Honda CR-V, and Subaru Outback
Add 10 new locations, including four in the University City section
Double its number of $6 an hour Priuses

During the summer, the City of Philadelphia awarded Zipcar its car-sharing contract, giving City employees access to Zipcars as an extension of the City Fleet. The program has been embraced by the city, with 20 City Departments and approximately 250 active members signed up for the Zipcar service.

Jeremy Nelson, General Manager of Zipcar-Philadelphia said, "We are very excited about our growth in Philadelphia and that our service and brand have received a warm welcome by Philadelphians. We look forward to continuing the momentum and bringing more cars on demand to the city."

Zipcar recently opened an expanded office space at a new transit-friendly, walk-in location in Center City at 218 S. 12th Street. Members can now join by visiting zipcar.com or dropping by the local office.

Zipcar's leading technology and service have contributed to its success in Philadelphia. The company offers its members many benefits, including access to a network of more than 5,500 cars in 50 cities, the convenience of secure in-vehicle gas cards, no per-mile fee and the industry's only mobile reservation system. Zipcar also offers a broad variety of vehicle types, including the Toyota Hybrid Prius, available for $6 per hour in Philadelphia.

Zipcar continues to pick up steam both domestically and internationally. Overall, the company is averaging 10,000 new members per month, triple the number joining at the same time last year.
