SANTA MONICA, Calif.--Inside Line, Edmunds.com's high-speed online car magazine, recently announced that the 2009 Mazda 6 won its latest comparison test of family sedans, which is described in full at Comparison Test: 2009 Mazda 6 vs. 2008 Honda Accord vs. 2008 Nissan Altima HERE.

The Inside Line editorial team compared three similarly positioned family sedans:

  • 2009 Mazda 6 s Grand Touring (MSRP of $30,690 and Edmunds.com True Market Value® (TMV®) of $30,560), equipped with a six-cylinder, 272-horsepower engine and six-speed automatic transmission;
  • 2008 Honda Accord EX-L V-6 Navi (MSRP of $30,930 and TMV® of $28,468), equipped with a six-cylinder, 268-horsepower engine and five-speed automatic transmission;
  • 2008 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE (MSRP of $27,275 and TMV® of $25,881), equipped with a six-cylinder, 270-horsepower engine and continuously variable transmission.

"All three of the sedans have something to offer," says Chris Walton, Edmunds Inside Line Chief Road Test Editor. "But the 2009 Mazda 6s sporty driving dynamics, features and well thought-out design gave it the overall victory.

The 2008 Honda Accord came in second place and impressed the editors with its value, refinement and build quality. The 2008 Nissan Altima, despite its price advantage, trailed the pack as a result of missing features and failing to fulfill its historical promise of being the sportiest front-drive sedan in its class.
