TOLEDO, Ohio, July 24 -- Dana Holding Corporation announced today that it has begun supplying Spicer(R) front differential assemblies for the all-new BMW X6 Sports Activity Coupe.

Dana utilizes a high-speed machining process to cut the precise gear dimensions. This highly specialized manufacturing process helps Dana achieve BMW's performance goals by ensuring that final specifications for this demanding application are met.

"We are pleased to expand our relationship with BMW, a vehicle manufacturer renowned for its world-class quality, luxury, and performance," said Gary Convis, Dana chief executive officer. "This new business demonstrates our commitment to quality and our ability to deliver on the highest of expectations."

Dana's quality assurance technology employs 100-percent online coordinate measuring devices, which integrate, in real-time, the final machined dimensions of the gears, housing, and cover, calculating their optimum relative positions for final assembly. The process verifies that the incoming components are within specifications, and then determines the best final assembly positions from the actual dimensions of the incoming components.

Tom Stone, Dana's president of light-axle products, said, "Dana's front differential contributes to the superior tracking stability of the X6 while meeting BMW's requirements for noise, vibration, and harshness standards, and maintaining top quality performance."

The front differential for the X6 is assembled at Dana's 126,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Orangeburg, S.C. Dana also manufactures front and rear differentials for the BMW X5 and front differentials for the BMW X3 at this facility.
