SEOUL - Prosecutors have demanded a six-year jail term for Chung Mong-koo, the chairman of Hyundai, the world's sixth-largest automaker for fraud and embezzlement.

The country's Supreme Court previously overturned a suspended three-year jail sentence, saying some of an appeal court's orders were unlawful, sending the issue back to a lower court for review.

In September, Seoul High Court ordered Chung to pay a 840 billion won ($809.4 million) donation, previously pledged by his family, deliver speeches about transparent management and write essays about governance, instead of a jail term.

But the high court upheld a lower court's conviction of the chairman for breach of trust, embezzlement of company money and setting up slush funds.
