DETROIT, May 19, 2008 -- The Great Lakes Manufacturing Council today announced that Joe Loughrey, president and chief operating officer of Cummins Inc., will be the kick-off speaker at its Manufacturing Forum on July 9 at the Cleveland Key Center Marriott. Cummins is the world's largest independent diesel engine manufacturer.

"Cummins has a very compelling story of manufacturing success in the Great Lakes Region and globally," said Ed Wolking, Jr., president of the Great Lakes Manufacturing Council. "We are thrilled that Cummins president and COO, Joe Loughrey, is able to share his powerful message and his commitment to manufacturing at our 2008 Great Lakes Manufacturing Forum in Cleveland."

Loughrey has worked for Cummins since 1974 becoming president and COO in May 2005. Throughout his career, Loughrey has championed a disciplined culture in which employees work together to create common tools and processes to solve complex business challenges. Loughrey is also credited with restoring the company's engine business to profitability. He took a business that was losing $100 million annually and helped turn it into an operation that has set company records for profitability. Based in Columbus, Indiana, Cummins has grown into a Fortune 250 company. Cummins has enjoyed record financial results each of the past four years employing nearly 40,000 people worldwide and doing business in more than 150 countries.

The Great Lakes Manufacturing Forum brings together leaders focused on promoting, enhancing and preserving manufacturing in the Great Lakes Region. Regional leaders will gather to discuss the image of the Great Lakes Region, innovation in manufacturing, the workforce and skills needed for manufacturing today and in the future as well as the borders and logistics requirements needed to succeed in today's global economy.
