  • Auburn Hills, May 5, 2008; During a telephone press conference which ended a 6:35EDT Jim Press, Vice Chairman and President, of Chrysler LLC discussed what he called “an unprecedented opportunity for our customers.”

During the month of May, Chrysler will offer consumers a choice of new vehicle purchase incentives; Cash, APR or participation in the new “Fuel Protection” bonus.

Every purchaser of selected Chrysler, Dodge or Jeep models, will have the opportunity to lock in their price of gasoline and diesel at a guaranteed per gallon price of $2.99, with a maximum of 12,000 miles worth for each of the next three years…

Let’s Refuel America” gives buyers of many new Chrysler, Dodge or Jeeps 3 years of 2.99 gasoline. Each qualifying buyer will get a "gas card" that has been linked to their own credit card, but when they gas-up they will only pay $2.99 a gallon with Chrysler charged the difference. This feature has been tested and will be administered by PriceLock.

Steven Landry, Executive Vice President - North American Sales, said that “We worked as a team to provide this new program which gives each buyer a Gas Card that charges their credit card only 2.99 no matter how much gasoline or diesel fuel will cost over the next three years.”

The program is limited to “fuel efficient” models and limits each buyer to the discounted price on only 12,000 miles worth of fuel each year.

Savings to consumers are variable...as an example, when a buyer purchases a Chrysler product that is rated for 28 MPG combined City/Highway and fuel averages $4.00 per gallon, the buyer that uses her "Chrysler Gas Card" will save $428.57 on gas purchases for each of the next three years...or the buyer can choose to take a Cash Back or Lower APR Incentive, instead of the 'Gas Card" incentive.

Milton Snide TACH curmudgeon says that buyers should consult with their own personal Economy Guru before making a decision about which incentive to accept.
