ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich., May 1, 2008 -- T-Systems North America has sealed a new contract with Mercedes-Benz U.S. International. As a partner for the Mercedes-Benz production facility in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, T-Systems will run the entire server environment and the plant's enterprise resource planning (ERP) system based on SAP(R) software.

"We are delighted to partner with Mercedes-Benz and look forward to applying our extensive knowledge about ICT network architecture, systems and tools to service this facility," said Jeff Siansky, Chief Sales and Service Officer for T-Systems in North America. "Our experience is ideal for this project, and in particular, our knowledge of Daimler production and logistics processes will serve as an invaluable resource for this customer."

Daimler's Mercedes-Benz builds M-Class, R-Class and GL-Class vehicles in its Tuscaloosa facility. The number of employees and production capacity has more than doubled since the facility opened in 1997. The supply chain, which Mercedes-Benz operates entirely over SAP, is very important. Tuscaloosa runs 'just-in-time' and 'just-in-sequence,' whether conducting body shell work, painting or final assembly.

Another advantage in the transition of Mercedes-Benz to SAP services is T-Systems' knowledge of Sun servers and Solaris operating systems. In both the USA and Europe, T-Systems works closely with Sun in dynamic architecture for SAP(R) solutions, another invaluable resource for the facility.

The contract began in January 2008 with the handover of more than 100 servers. In a second step, T-Systems will assume responsibility for the operation of the SAP systems that support Mercedes-Benz production. The transition is currently in process and will continue through the 2nd quarter, 2008. T-Systems won the contract as the result of a competitive bidding process the Mercedes IT team conducted in close cooperation with their purchasing group.

T-Systems brings a long-term automotive background as well as a strong expertise in managing complex IT environments to master these challenges. Deutsche Telekom's enterprise customer unit is currently the leading ICT provider for the automotive industry in Western Europe and aims to become the No. 1 provider worldwide by 2010. With its 25 national subsidiaries, T-Systems' automotive unit is present in all key regions and automobile markets in the world.
