Certified Tool and Manufacturing Corporation announced today it is closing its Elkgrove, Il plant, moving to a facility it already owned and operated in Frankfort, KY. The Frankfort 88,000 square foot climate controlled facility sits on 13 acres off the I-64 and I-75 manufacturing corridor, strategically located to supply many automotive, appliance, farm equipment and firearms customers in Kentucky and surrounding states.

Once the move is completed, the Frankfort facility will house 16 multi-slide machines, 16 stamping presses ranging from 27 ton to 600 ton, and 8 injection molding machines ranging for 85 ton to 385 ton. In addition, Certified Tool also provides value added services such as assembly, onsite tool maintenance and tool modification, and over-molding stamped components.

The facility move, which started in 2007 and is scheduled to be completed by April 30th, will not impact the delivery requirements of current customers, but since most customers are automotive related, the completion of "PPAP" packages will be required for parts on all tools that have moved and will be in process through the month of May, 2008.

In conjunction with his consolidation, Certified Tool has hired a new Quality Control Manager, Mike Wright, who will be tasked with implementing the quality processes necessary to gain TS-16949 certification before the end of 2008. The facility move will impact Certified's current ISO certification timeline as the regulatory audit of the facility was postponed during the month of April due to the additional personnel requirements needed to manage the consolidation. Certified's decision to pursue the TS-16949 certification is due in part to the demands of the automotive industry customers to be TS certified, over and above the ISO-9001 certification.

Certified Tool's president Kent Holmes said the consolidation was necessary for the future health and growth of Certified, and would allow for greater efficiencies in manufacturing by having all production in one location. In addition, favorable labor rates and cross-trained manufacturing staff are available in this region, which has been positively affected by a large manufacturing industry producing for Toyota in Georgetown.

"The decision to close Elkgrove after decades of operation was difficult, but necessary for the continued growth and prosperity of the company," Mr. Holmes said. "It presents the opportunity for expansion and growth for many years to come, without moving locations, in an area of the country that has seen stable growth and manufacturing in automotive, appliance, farm equipment and firearms sectors."
