AMBROSE CHERISHES EVERY RACE AT BRISTOL

He may only be in his third NASCAR season, but already Australian NASCAR driver Marcos Ambrose considers Bristol Motor Speedway one of the most special racing venues in world motorsport.

Ambrose will race on the world’s fastest half-mile this weekend in the Sharpie Mini 300 as he looks to make a run towards a top 10 points position in the 2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series standings.

Ambrose witnessed his first NASCAR race at Bristol back in 2003 and now makes sure that he savours every opportunity he gets to race at the unique speedway in Bristol, Tennessee.

Having progressed from spectator to full-time NASCAR Nationwide Series competitor since that first visit, Ambrose is looking to post another consistent finish this weekend.

Last weekend in Atlanta the 31-year-old guided the #59 Kingsford Hickory Ford Fusion to 11th place, ending a run of poor luck for Ambrose and his JTG Racing crew.

In the Sharpie Mini 300 Ambrose is determined to push hard and look to come away with another strong result as he tries to climb up the order in the series standings, but at the same time the driver from Launceston, Tasmania realises that you need to show Bristol the respect it deserves.

“Bristol is a really special race track and you definitely have to cherish and savour every opportunity you get to race there,” said Ambrose.

“The track has probably had the better of me the past few times I’ve raced there so I’ll be looking to change that this time around.

“Bristol is just that sort of place – it’s so tough and it takes no prisoners. It’s always a special feeling when you arrive at the track before first practice.

“Since we got a good finish on the board at Atlanta it has allowed us to go into Bristol with a fresh outlook.

“We can go out there and drive it hard and fast. We didn’t want to have to come into Bristol thinking about the owner’s points situation so in that sense Atlanta was crucial for us and it has freed us up for this weekend.”
