Marcos Ambrose had kicked his weekend off in the right fashion by running 15th fastest in opening practice for the Sam’s Town 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Nevada today.

Ambrose set quick times in the #59 Kingsford Hickory Ford Fusion at the 1.5-mile oval, backing up up the pace of the first session with 27th in final practice.

The Australian qualified 14th and finished 10th at the same event last season, giving Ambrose and his JTG Racing confidence heading into tomorrow.

Qualifying and the 200-lap race will be held tomorrow. The Sam’s Town 300 is the third event in the 35-race 2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series.

Bobby Labonte and Kyle Busch topped today’s two practice sessions at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

“This is a solid start to the weekend,” said Ambrose.

“We ran well and just kept working at it and working at it, getting the car better and better.

“I’ve run well here before and it certainly helps having tested here about a month ago.

“I’m very focussed for tomorrow’s race. I really want to show everyone what we are truly capable of in the Kingsford car.”
