The Indianapolis Motor Speedway and dignitaries from the Indianapolis area have created an inaugural Red Bull Indianapolis GP Local Organizing Committee to roll out the red carpet for fans coming to town for the event Sept. 12-14.

The Red Bull Indianapolis GP will be the 14th of 18 races on the 2008 MotoGP World Championship schedule, but it marks the first time since 1909 that motorcycles will compete at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Track and city officials aim to create a festival atmosphere in celebration of this historic event.

“We are pleased to team with Indianapolis civic and business leaders to celebrate the return of motorcycles to IMS and continue the Speedway’s legacy of creating exciting, entertaining events for nearly 100 years,” said Joie Chitwood, IMS president and chief operating officer. “The Red Bull Indianapolis GP will be a week-long celebration providing an unforgettable experience for motorcycle enthusiasts and race fans.”

The Red Bull Indianapolis GP Local Organizing Committee consists of representatives from these organizations: LDI Ltd., Indianapolis Convention & Visitors Association, Indianapolis Downtown, Inc., Indiana Office of Tourism Development, International Center of Indianapolis, Simon Property Group, regional and national motorcycle enthusiasts and IMS.

The committee will oversee the coordination of local special events, local and regional riding opportunities for motorcycle enthusiasts, local hotels and restaurants, public safety and security, and the previously announced AMA Flat Track Championship race Sept. 13 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

More events coordinated by the Red Bull Indianapolis GP Local Organizing Committee will be announced in the future.
