Shanghai. January 14 (Gasgoo.com) - General Motors will launch Chinese made Chevrolet Malibu hybrid in China on January 22. This will be the first hybrid vehicle that GM is going to offer in the market, said a GM official.

Martin Murray, head of GM's Asia Pacific hybrid engineering, said the car will adopt the same mild hybrid Belt-Alternator-Starter system as GM Saturn Aura hybrid, adding that GM's hybrid system is flexible and cost effective and is ideal for high volume global applications, which includes its application in China in 2008.

GM first showed the new Malibu hybrid at the Los Angeles Auto Show last November. The automaker said the hybrid Belt-Alternator-Starter system helps the car achieve EPA ratings of 24 mpg city and 32 mpg highway, an increase of two miles per gallon in each case.
