China's all-powerful economic planning and regulatory body, National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has recently approved the local production plan of Toyota’s SUV model RV-4, official media Xinhua News Agency reported today.

The Toyota RV-4 will be built in an assemble line of FAW-Toyota Tianjin, where 42,000 vehicles are expected to be rolled out a year.

Earlier this year Japanese media said Toyota RV-4 will be produced at the Tianjin plant of FAW-Toyota before 2009. The plant will have a capacity to produce 50,000 vehicles annually.

Toyota RV-4 is most likely to compete with Honda's hot-selling SUV model CRV in the Chinese market, Xinhua News Agency said.

Currently the 2.4 Liter engine based third generation of RAV-4 is the only RV-4 model sold in Chinese market. The model, which came to China by means of importing, is priced at 318,000 yuan ($43,125) for the comfort version and 348,000 ($47,183) for the luxury edition.
