OSRAM XENON Lighting to Be Offered as a Feature on 2008 Ford Mustang

HILLSBORO, N.H., Oct. 1, 2007 -- OSRAM SYLVANIA, the world leader in automotive lighting, is providing D3R mercury-free XENON (high intensity discharge) lighting that will be offered as an option on the 2008 Ford Mustang.

Innovative XENON lighting technology provides the brightest illumination available for automotive headlamps and the best visibility for night time drivers. XENON lighting is considered the benchmark against which other forward lighting technologies are measured.

"The attributes of XENON lighting are really remarkable. We've long understood that, when used properly, the technology offers drivers increased visibility of the road and peripheral objects typically left in the shadows," Matthew Blewett, XENON product manager, said. "XENON technology is now being viewed as more than just a luxury option because of its superior performance attributes, and it will continue to find its way into a wide range of vehicles," he added.

The 2008 Ford Mustang is the second Ford Motor Company vehicle to feature OSRAM SYLVANIA mercury-free XENON lighting. Currently, the Lincoln Navigator is also equipped with mercury-free XENON technology.

"We are excited that we can now offer this technology on a mercury-free platform," Blewett continued. "This development underpins the values of OSRAM SYLVANIA's 'Global Care' initiative, a company-wide program that seeks to minimize our impact on the environment. This program also exemplifies our customers' commitment to the environment; Ford Motor Company has stated it is taking a no-compromise approach toward integrating sustainability into all aspects of its business strategy."

OSRAM is the only global manufacturer of the complete XENON lighting system, from lamp to electronics, simplifying logistics and troubleshooting, ensuring an optimized system performance.

OSRAM has been at the forefront of XENON lighting technology since its inception and introduction on North American vehicles in the early 1990s.
