Tokyo, Sept 27, 2007; Jiji Press reported that Toyota Motor Corp. said Wednesday that it will recall the driver-side floor mats used in a total of some 55,000 vehicles in the United States.

The recall covers 24,500 units of the 2007 and 2008 models of the Camry sedan and 30,500 units of the 2007 and 2008 models of the Lexus ES350 luxury car, the leading Japanese automaker said.

The floor mat, if unsecured, could slip forward and trap the accelerator pedal, causing the vehicle to accelerate uncontrollably, according to Toyota.
