LONG ISLAND CITY, N.Y.--Major World automotive of Long Island City, NY, has been selected as the exclusive distributor of Miles Electric Vehicles for the New York metropolitan area as well as Westchester County. Backed by MILES lineup of zero emissions all-electric cars and trucks, the dealership is setting its sites on providing New Yorkers with some of the greenest cars and trucks on the road.

All-electric vehicle technology is undergoing huge advances, and MILES is quietly taking the lead, said Major World President Bruce Bendell. Were excited to provide all-electric vehicles that we think can make a difference in one of the worlds largest and most influential automotive markets.

According to Bendell, the first step will be to introduce municipalities, universities and other organizations looking to cut emissions and costs to MILES lineup of low speed all-electric vehicles, including the ZX40 and ZX40S hatchback and the ZX40ST work truck. With 90% fewer moving parts and a 125+ mpg cost equivalent, they generally cost about one-fifth as much to operate as typical gas-powered vehicles, and they enable organizations to eliminate an average of 12,000 pounds of annual tailpipe emissions for every gas-powered vehicle they replace.

Looking forward, Major World will also be the areas exclusive seller of the MILES XS500, the companys highway-speed all-electric sedan, slated for delivery late next year. Powered by proprietary lithium ion battery technology, the vehicle tops 80 mph and can travel 120+ miles on a single charge - for about the cost of a gallon of gas. With an MSRP right around $32,000, its anticipated to be the only reasonably affordable highway-speed car on the U.S. market for the foreseeable future.

Major World, which sells more than 20,000 vehicles annually on Northern Blvd. in Long Island City, joins a network of approximately 40 authorized Miles Electric Vehicle dealers nationwide, most of which have joined within the last few months. That number is expected to grow to nearly 200 by the end of 2008.

Because it serves such an important market, Major World is going to play a pivotal role in our companys future and, for that matter, the future of electric vehicle adoption in this country, said Miles Automotive Group CEO Jeff Boyd. Given the quality of their operations and their dedication to their customers, we couldnt ask for a better partner to bring our vehicles to the market and join our mission to help change the way Americans drive.

City and State Officials to Help Kick Off Major Worlds Green Vehicle Push

New York state and city officials will speak at a special press conference to support Major Worlds green transportation leadership and promote adoption of all-electric vehicles among New York fleets and drivers. Speakers will include New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, State Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan, and representatives from the New York City Mayors office and Con Edison. Major World President and CEO Bruce Bendell (whos also a board member of the Queens and Sunnyside Chambers of Commerce as well as the Long Island City Business Development Corporation) will also speak at the conference, as will Miles Rubin, chairman and founder of Miles Electric Vehicles.

The event will be held Friday, September 7th, at 11:00 am at the rear patio of the Con Edison Learning Center, located at 43-28 Vernon Boulevard, Long Island City.
