SHANGHAI - August 14, 2007: Shanghai GM plans to introduce a SUV model, Antara, later this year, a Shanghai GM official told Gasgoo.com today.

"We are not allowed to disclose any details about new car models to be introduced to China," said Gong Guangjun, a public relations official from GM.

However, Gong confirmed that Shanghai GM's marketing manager, Sun Xiaodong said in April Shanghai GE would introduce a SUV model to China later this year.

Currently Shanghai GM has no plan to produce SUV models locally in China; instead, the company plans to import 2.4 L and 3.2L SUV models from abroad, Guangzhou Daily reported yesterday.

In a separate development, Dongfeng-Nissan will introduce two SUV models, Qashqai and X-Trail, which will be produced locally in China in 2008, according to a Guangzhou Daily report yesterday.

The Qashqai model, which will be produced locally in China, will be sold at RMB 150,000. Nissan X-Trail will start production by late 2008, Guangzhou Daily said.

In addition to these two SUV models, Dongfeng-Nissan also plans to introduce two other Nissan brands to China, MAXIMA and MURANO, the report said.
