Students Tell America to Buckle Their Safety Belts!

WASHINGTON--More than 2,700 students from 330 schools used basic art supplies and a lot of creativity to communicate that safety belts save lives in GEICOs 20th annual Safety Belt Poster Contest.

One student in each age group was named a national grand-prize winner. In the 6-8-year-old age group, Matthias Herman of Illinois won for his Click, Click, Click message. In the 9-11-year-old age group, Grace Zhang of New Jersey won for her Buckle Up message. In the 12-15-year-old age group, Christina Li of New Jersey won for her Buckle up America message. Each student won an additional $450 and $500 for their school to use towards art supplies.

We are very happy that students are helping GEICO spread the word on safety belts, said Tony Nicely, chairman of GEICO. A safety belt or child safety seat is the most effective way to stay safe.

Next years poster contest will open to 6-to-18-year-old students. First-, second-, and third-place prizes of $150, $100 and $50 will be awarded in eight regions and four age groups.

Congratulations to all of the students who entered the 20th annual Safety Belt Poster contest. Go to www.geico.com for more information and a list of the regional winners. We encourage students to help save lives and enter again in fall 2007!
