Mobil 1 Paves the Way for Million-Mile Saab Achievement

FAIRFAX, Va.--Further exemplifying the exceptional performance of its flagship Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil, ExxonMobil is proud to announce that Peter Gilbert of Glendale, Wisconsin, completed an ambitious goal of driving one million miles in his 1989 Saab SPG, with the help of Mobil 1 motor oil.

Gilbert, an insurance salesman who drives approximately five hours a day, clocking in approximately 300 miles, hung up his hat on October 28, 2006, when his Saab arrived at the Wisconsin Auto Museum in Hartford, Wisconsin. His now legendary car will be immortalized for years to come for the enjoyment of auto enthusiasts worldwide.

"Nearly 17 years ago when I got my Saab, I set forth a goal to reach the one-million mile benchmark. I knew that using Mobil 1 synthetic engine oil would give me the best chance to do it," said Gilbert when reflecting upon his accomplishment.

Living in Wisconsin, Gilbert often logged extensive mileage while facing harsh, cold winters. That is why he says two of the key performance benefits he derived from using Mobil 1 0W40 were its ability to reduce sludge formation and provide protection under the most demanding ambient conditions.

"While I have always been very interested in the science and technology of how things work, I am a person who is far more interested in results," Gilbert said. "And, the results I have had are a testament to the superior technology that is behind Mobil 1 synthetic engine oil."

Throughout Gilbert’s journey, Mobil 1 products played a vital role, including the synthetic grease used for CV joints.

While he admits that retiring his beloved ‘one-million-mile’ vehicle made him "slightly sad," Gilbert has moved on and is now embarking on a new journey with a brand new Saab 9-5 Aero and Mobil 1 by his side.
