FANS CAN ENJOY EXPANDED, FREE STREAMING VIDEO FROM INDY 500
INDIANAPOLIS, Wednesday, April 4, 2007 – Expanded streaming video from the 91st Indianapolis 500 will be offered free online to fans during the Month of May, bringing the action of “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” to homes and offices around the world.
Live action from practice, qualifying and Race Day will be available at www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com and www.indycar.com from Opening Day, Sunday, May 6 through Race Day, Sunday, May 27.
“We’re very excited about the new features offered in our free, live streaming video during the Month of May,” IMS President Joie Chitwood said. “It’s the next-best thing to being at the track. The video will bring all of the excitement and power of Indy to fans everywhere, while the interactive features will provide fans a place to share their feedback about the action.”
The streaming video module integrates three elements – video, live user chat and live timing and scoring – into one package, giving fans all of the pertinent information they need in one convenient spot.
During practice sessions, users can select live video from one of two cameras. During qualifying, users also can choose live video from one of two cameras when ABC or ESPN is not televising live. When ABC or ESPN is on the air, users will see and hear live post-qualifying press conferences with drivers from the IMS Media Center, a perfect complement to the live television coverage.
On Race Day, users can select live race video from one of six in-car cameras, with drivers to be determined. Post-race press conferences also will be broadcast live.
All video is streamed at a fast 400-kbps bit rate. It is accompanied by audio from the IMS Radio Network or the IMS Public Address staff.
The chat function allows users to share their opinions and comments about the action with other fans from around the world. Chat is available in four different languages – English, Spanish, Portuguese and French.
Fans also can offer their instant feedback about the action through a “hot and cold” button, a real-time application that tracks users’ excitement for various events on the track.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Indy Racing League are providing this free streaming video through a partnership with WhiteBlox, a Houston-based leading broadband network solutions company. WhiteBlox delivers robust technology and application services in a comprehensive production and delivery suite that allows companies to become their own IPTV broadcasters. WhiteBlox gives customers the flexibility, control and tools to leverage video assets and content into dynamic, engaging and profitable networks through use of its integrated broadband solutions.
