Washington DC March 28, 2007; The AIADA newsletter reported that Japanese and Korean automakers at the New York International Auto Show next week will showcase new offerings that could tighten their stranglehold on the luxury vehicle segment in the United States.

More than seven of 10 of the 1.5 million luxury cars sold in the United States in 2006 were foreign brands, according to Autodata.

At the show, Infiniti will debut its new G37 coupe featuring a new 3.7-liter V-6 engine that produces 330 horsepower.

According to the Detroit News, Toyota plans to unveil its luxury brand's Lexus LX 570, the replacement for the LX 460. Continuing Toyota's trend for expanding interior space, like it has on the 2008 Highlander, the LX 570 also should come with more room inside.

One of the most important vehicles to debut in New York will be the Hyundai concept. Genesis, the Korean company's first rear-wheel drive premium sports sedan, is a way that the carmaker can show it's serious about the luxury market, she said. "It's one of the 'We're here' kind of cars," Brinley said.
