COLOGNE, March 16, 2007 – The Ford S-MAX continues to celebrate its status as Car of the Year 2007 with rising sales. In February, Ford sold 5,400 of the innovative models in its main 21 European markets. Together with a solid year-over-year performance by many of its other models, including Fiesta, Fusion, Focus, C-MAX, Transit and Transit Connect, Ford of Europe increased its sales in February by more than 7,000 units, or 6.3 percent, to 119,000. That boosted market share by almost 4-tenths of a percentage point to 8.44 percent.

Ford's largest European market was Italy, where sales improved by more than 22 percent, to 20,150 units. Britain followed with 16,900 units, up from 16,674. That gave Ford of Britain an improved market share of 18.7 percent vs 17.8 percent in February 2006.

For the first two months of 2007, Ford of Europe's sales in its main 21markets increased 7.2 percent, or 17,500 units, to 259,000.

"Our new models, like the S-MAX, Galaxy and Transit, continue to make a big impact in the market," said Stephen Odell, vice president, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford of Europe. "We are confident that the all-new Mondeo will have a similar impact when it goes on sale later this year."

Ford's sales data includes both passenger cars and commercial vehicles from its 21 major European Sales Companies, including Russia and Turkey. Market share excludes Russia.
