Alternative Fuel Autos For Sale in The U.S. Now

Alternative Fuel Autos: Definition

For most of the automobile’s history, cars have run on gasoline. Much is changing today. Alternative fuel autos, including cars, minivans, sport utility vehicles and pickups, are now being sold that run on a variety of different fuels. An alternative fuel auto runs partially or totally on a fuel other than gasoline. These advanced technology vehicles include automobiles powered by hybrid technology, clean diesel, biodiesel, ethanol, hydrogen and compressed natural gas. Because these vehicles use alternatives to gasoline, they are the quickest way for our country to reduce gasoline consumption.

Auto Alliance members are producing new technologies to reduce fuel use while providing consumers with utility, safety, performance and comfort. There are 60 models of alternative fuel autos on sale today, up from 12 in 2000. Additional models are planned for future production.
