More than 85 companies and organisations around the world - among them the Volvo Group – have recently signed a post-Kyoto framework for clean energy and climate change action. The statement was intended as a way forward for tackling climate change.

The initiative is called ‘The Global Roundtable on Climate Change’ and brings together more than 100 high-level, crucial stakeholders from all regions of the world to discuss and explore areas of potential consensus regarding core scientific, technological and economic issues critical to shaping sound public policies on climate change.

“This is exactly the type of initiative in which Volvo wants to participate,” said Leif Johansson, CEO of AB Volvo. “If we are to be able to address the greenhouse effect, we in the transport industry in particular face major challenges. We know that we are part of the problem, but we are also convinced that we are part of the solution. Since the beginning of the ‘70s, Volvo has adopted environmental care as one of its core values and, as one of the world’s leading manufacturers of trucks, buses and construction equipment, Volvo is investing heavily in developing the technology that will resolve the problem of greenhouse gas emissions from transport operations.”

The statement signed by the companies and other organisations calls on governments to set scientifically informed targets for greenhouse gases and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
