Self Parking Technology Hitting the Market

Washington DC October 30, 2006; The AIADA newsletter reported that many automakers are getting into self-parking technology, which is expected to become an industry standard for some vehicles, reports Automotive News.

Using the concept of electric steering, which gives the vehicle some control over the wheel, engineers have designed systems for low-speed maneuvering that allows the car to steer itself in spots that are difficult for some drivers.

Toyota's version of the technology is video and ultrasound-based and is offered as an option for its 2007 Lexus LS 460.

Valeo, Inc. plans to supply an ultrasound-based self-parking system for Volkswagon's Touran minivan in 2007.
