DEARBORN, MI - September 27, 2006: Peak fall color viewing conditions are about a week away in the state's Upper Peninsula, with many of the state parks in the region reporting color development currently at 50-65 percent, reports AAA Michigan.

According to observers at F.J. McClain State Park in Calumet, the best viewing can be found inland, away from the moderating effects of Lake Superior. AAA's weekly survey of state parks and regional visitors' bureaus reveals the best color show at Cedar River and St. Ignace, where 65 percent of the trees have turned vibrant shades of orange, red and yellow.

In the Northwest and Northeast Lower Peninsula, the prime viewing is still two weeks away. Color development in the region ranges between 35 and 40 percent, with the best viewing near Onaway. Expect peak conditions to occur in early October in the inland areas and mid October near the Lake Michigan shoreline.

Across the rest of the Lower Peninsula, color is just beginning to appear, with peak conditions not expected for another two to three weeks.

Fall color watchers looking for the best viewing opportunities can call Travel Michigan at (888) 78-GREAT (784-7328) for color updates provided by AAA Michigan each Wednesday through October. Updates also will be posted at www,michigan.org.
