MotorWeek TV Puts Consumers in the Driver's Seat

OWINGS MILLS, Md.--Sept. 8, 2006--Understanding that people care deeply about what they drive and how they spend their money, MotorWeek launches an all-new season ready to empower viewers nationwide with consumer-focused, technology-driven auto news and information. The award-winning television series premieres its 26th season on PBS, beginning on September 8, 2006, and on cable's SPEED later in the month (check local listings). Viewers can expect a whole new graphic look and a plan to offer a Spanish version later in the season. MotorWeek is nationally sponsored by The Stanley Works, Dunlop and Cars.com, and is produced by Maryland Public Television.

"With all the viewer comments we receive about fuel efficiency, MotorWeek will focus on how people can use fuel-saving technology and still have the features they want," said John Davis, MotorWeek host and executive producer. "We'll bust the myths about what it takes to be fuel efficient and offer comprehensive reviews of small cars, compact SUVs and people movers that fit the bill."

MotorWeek road tests, offering the first place to see new models put through the paces, will feature energy-efficiency scores later in the season along with types of fuel each vehicle requires. "We're giving people more tools for comparing and making fuel-efficient decisions," said Davis. "It's all about empowering people to make the choices that fit their lifestyles and budgets."

Season highlights: Goss' Garage resident master technician Pat Goss offers 10 fuel-saving tips people can do now, and a fall car care update; a Road Test of seven fuel-saving subcompacts; a fall tailgating feature with Barbecue University's Steven Raichlen; and MotorWeek's continuing coverage of hybrid models and alternative fuels receiving increasing attention, such as the renewable E85 and hydrogen.

Feature reporter Henry Kopacz goes Over the Edge, finding stories of the auto world gone extreme and quirky angles on anything with an engine, from a 150-ton payload dump truck to the world-renowned Blue Angels. MotorWeek expands its lifestyle segment, Gear, with consumer reporter Anqoinette Crosby spotlighting the ongoing craze of personalizing cars and scouring the booming after-market accessories industry for the coolest new automotive products. MotorWeek newcomer Yolanda Vasquez injects her seasoned reporting into AutoWorld segments, covering a dynamic range of topics, from the dangers of aggressive driving to auto safety technology.
