• Financial Contributions to the Fifth Annual Volvo for life Awards Heroes Total $1 Million, Include a Volvo Car for Life

NEW YORK - July 24, 2006: Do you know a hometown hero seeking to improve the safety, quality of life and/or environment of others? Volvo Cars of North America is calling on people nation wide to nominate a hero they know in the nation's largest annual search for and celebration of everyday heroes. One overall winner, to be named "America's Greatest Hometown Hero," will receive a new car every three years for life.

The fifth anniversary Volvo for life Awards is a national public service program that honors hometown heroes with $1 million in financial contributions. Volvo calls on people to nominate a hero that they know doing the extraordinary in the areas of safety, quality of life or environment. Through July 31, 2006, visit www.volvoforlifeawards.com to nominate a hero. The initiative has recognized nearly 13,000 individuals from all 50 states for their extraordinary service since its inception in 2001.

Volvo is conducting this program to bring attention to the outstanding contributions individuals make to their communities and to inspire others to do the same. Hundreds of past hero nominees and winners have been profiled and highlighted for readers on www.volvoforlifeawards.com. In August, Volvo will select 250 semi-finalists, five from each state from the past five years' pool of nominees.

Nine finalists will be named in February 2007, three in each category. A panel of distinguished judges representing some of the world's foremost experts on conscience, care and character -- including Hank Aaron, Sen. Bill Bradley, Caroline Kennedy, Maya Lin, Paul Newman, Sally Ride, Eunice Kennedy Shriver and the four previous Volvo for life Awards top winners will name one winner for each of the three categories. The category winners will each receive $50,000 to be donated to the charities of their choice. The remaining six finalists will each receive a $25,000 charitable donation.

On April 4, 2007, Volvo will honor the three category winners at the Volvo for life Awards Ceremony in New York City. Each year the event features top music entertainment and a celebrity host, as well as documentaries profiling the category winners. The overall grand winner will be named "America's Greatest Hometown Hero" and presented with a Volvo car every three years for the rest of his or her life.
