British Consumers Search For Fuel-Efficient Vehicles As 'Petrol' Prices Skyrocket

LUTON, England - June 2, 2006: With the national average cost of a litre of unleaded likely to breach the 95p a litre mark (approx $6.75 per gallon), consumer searches for fuel-efficient cars have increased dramatically according to the latest figures from Desperate Seller.co.uk, a leading UK car buying/selling website.

The Toyota Prius, recognised as the UK’s greenest family car, has featured in the Top 10 number of vehicle searches on Desperate Seller for the past three consecutive months. The five door Prius uses battery power to back up a 1.5-litre petrol engine and emits just 104g/km of CO2, the lowest of any car on sale.

Another vehicle showing a significant increase in the number of searches is the Toyota Aygo, this three-or five-door city car posts the UK's second-lowest CO2 emissions of just 109g/km not far behind the ultra-clean Toyota Prius. Also showing significant increases are the Peugeot 407 1.6HDI S 110, one of the most high specced green cars on the market, which not only breaks 50mpg but has respectable CO2 emissions of 145g/km and Honda Civic 1.3 IMA Executive, a vehicle that tops the Environmental Transport Association’s green rankings.
